West 25th Pub Crawl
Ahhh Cleveland, the home of steel mills, rust, red brick 19th century streets and now ice cold micro brews! Once a bastion for blue-collar workers after the 5 o’clock factory bell and formerly a somber reminder of urban decay, the inner neighborhoods of Cleveland have given rise to some of the best pub-crawls in the Midwest.
Much like the thriving neighborhoods of other Midwestern metropolises, Chicago, Pittsburgh & Milwaukee, Cleveland’s downtown-lining neighborhoods of Tremont, Ohio City (West 25th Street), and Gordon square have been given a second chance at life.

Ohio City & West 25th Neighborhood
The last few decades, while generally unkind to Midwestern economics, have managed to produce the urban renewal and interest needed in beverages (other then Keystone Ice and 6 packs of Busch) to create a solid and celebrated drinking culture. This fascination with Midwestern micro brewing has ignigted popularity in Great Lakes Brewery; an Ohio City mainstay. Great Lakes Brewery produces a fine variety of beers including the award winning Dortmunder Gold and Burning River. The brewery is located just a few steps off of West 25th Street and is in spitting distance of the Bier Market, a dimly lit venue featuring over 80 beer selections with an emphasis on Belgian styles, and the Old Angle, a classic Irish-style pub with a tasty selection of drafts and bottles named after the Irish neighborhood that once inhabited the area. The famous West Side Market, a Cleveland culinary landmark, firmly anchors the neighborhood and the newly opened Market Garden Brewery, positioned directly next door, serves up a great selection of pale ales, IPAs, and lagers for the discerning drinker. Don’t forget to stop by the Garage Bar for a cold drink on its huge patio or the ABC Tavern, an up-and-coming West 25th spot. More Ohio City eateries and hotspots are listed below.

Tremont
The Tremont area, located south of the once very popular factory and nightlife district the Flats, is a thriving scene of bars and taverns. Tremont’s Professor Street houses a fine collection of eateries including Iron Chef Michel Simon’s Lolita, the Flying Monkey and South Side (which features a great kobe beef ‘Tremont burger’). The neighborhood also hosts the lively Tremont Art Walk each month.

Gordon Square
The newest of Cleveland's inner neighbors undergoing renewal is The Gordon Square arts district. Gordon Square, the home of Cleveland Public Theater and Capital Theater, a renovated vintage movie theater with independent films, is also home to many new pubs and travens. The Happy Dog, located a few blocks away from the Theater on Detroit Road, headlines rockabilly & indie bands and offers a killer hot dog with dozens of topping to choose from and tater tots! Just down the road the stylish LUXE provides a gourmet menu available on its outdoor patio.

Next time you’re looking for a new adventure, minus the bad drinks and music, walk over the Cuyahoga bridges to sample the local ales and crawl back happy.
