Space Invader!

I had the pleasure of visiting the “Art in the Streets” exhibit at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Downtown Los Angeles. I had wanted to go for two reasons: I love street art and I had wanted to do something special on my anniversary with my boyfriend of three year

I was excited because this was the fist time I would be seeing artists like Bansky and Shepard Fairey in one place. I didn’t know what to expect but I knew it was going to be something epic.
The minute I walked into the exhibit, I was a little overwhelmed by the colors and pictures. What was I going to see first? Which way was I going to go? I then was drawn to the tile space invaders by non other than Invader.

Who is exactly is Invader?
Invader is an unidentified French artist who is known for using colorful mosaic tiles that depict popular 70s video game characters, such as the space invaders. His “invasion” of Paris started in 1998 and has spread allover Europe and the United States. Some of his other works include a project called “Rubikcubism” where his art is made from Rubik’s cubes. He’s also has numerous exhibits in Europe and in the United States.

In July of 2011, it was believe that Invader along with another French national was detained by the LAPD for vandalism. Both were later released and no charges were made.

If you want to learn more about Invader or Banksy, I highly suggest watching the documentary, “Exit through the Gift Shop,” by Thierry Guetta. It’s a great documentary that takes a look at the underground world of street artists.
