Voice Your Temper and TensionWIRE show off at TarFest 2011

On September 25th Voice Your Temper and TensionWIRE joined with Jakprints, Warner Bros, LA Weekly, Lagunitas Brewing and others to sponsor TarFest music festival at the La Brea Tar Pits in Los Angeles.

What an awesome day.

From the start we knew TarFest was going to be pretty cool—we just didn’t know what a great day we had in store for ourselves.  See, we’re pretty young when it comes to the sponsoring big events business. So adding our name to an already impressive list of sponsors was a bit intimidating but we totally held our own, if I do say so myself.

Here are some highlights of the day in no particular order:

  • Ladies, Gentleman and Kids of all ages! What really impressed me about TarFest, and I guess Los Angeles in general, was all of the parents who brought their kids out to hear the music and participate. The fest was teeming with people from infant to grandma and everyone in between. It’s pretty rare that your 6-year-old cousin will be at the same show as you but TarFest had something for everyone. Besides, it’s adorable to watch little kids dance to rock n’ roll. Even 90s songstress Lisa Loeb brought her young daughter to the festivities and they popped by the VYT tent, too!

  • The Music, The Madness! All day long a constant stream of talented performers entertained us. To be honest this was the first time I’d heard any of these bands live and I was certainly not let down. Ash Panda kicked things off—I’m pretty sure their bass player was 11 but that kid could whale! And their guitar player had the chops of someone at least twice his age. My favorite band of the day was A House For Lions; this is half because their singer is a megbabe and half because their folky indie rock melted my icy heart. Swoon.

  • Live Art like Whoa! It’s not often we’re invited in the artist’s workshop to watch him create his work but at TarFest four artists exposed themselves and their creative processes to the world. Four huge canvases were positioned to the right of the stage, in everyone’s view, as four artists constructed unique works of art live. As the day wore on, thier tireless efforts made for some beautiful eye candy.

  • Fashion Everywhere! It must be tough to keep up in LA. TarFest was an impromptu fashion show with LA natives sporting the best in indie rocking’ street style. Babes of all ages stopped over to learn more about Voice Your Temper and TensionWIRE. We’re hoping to continue to beautify this area, not that they need much help!

  • Voice Your Temper Wall: Just for fun VYT and TW built a plain white wall and provide ample multi-colored sharpies so anyone who wanted to could “Voice Your Temper”—the result was a beautiful hand drawn graffiti wall depicting the passions of hundreds of TarFest attendants.  It was super fun to watch the wall change as the day progressed.

  • Supporting the Arts in a Major Way: Too often big businesses claim to support the little guy but at TarFest some of these big guys had the chance to put their money [and their support] where their mouths are. We were lucky enough to be joined by big names like Warner Bros. Records, LA Weekly, Jakprints and Jarritos—all out there showing their support for burgeoning artists and musicians.

All in all this was a day I felt good about. It had all the elements I need for a quality event: babes, Rock n’ Roll, soda pop, hula hoops, food trucks, sunshine, talent and a bier garden! We’ll be back, TarFest, we’ll be back!
